On 6th February 2025, the Department of Economics hosted a seminar on the Economics of Sports for students enrolled in the Tourism and Sports Economics module. We were honored to welcome Dr. Kevin Quigley, a distinguished Fulbright Senior Specialist, as our guest speaker. Dr. Quigley shared invaluable insights from his extensive experience at the intersection of sports and economics in the United States. His background is distinguished by roles such as a Peace Corps volunteer and a lifelong athlete, including being a nationally-ranked triathlete, competitive tennis player, long-distance swimmer, and participant in the TransAm bike ride from San Diego to St. Augustine.

Dr. Quigley addressed key topics, including the significance of the tourism industry and the importance of global languages such as English, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, and Russian. He also discussed the ten largest industries in the world, the biggest sports by revenue, and global sports revenue trends. The seminar provided students with an opportunity to practice their listening skills and engage with Dr. Quigley through an interactive Q&A session.
